As part of the campaign we are asking local companies and businesses to get involved, and support the campaign by taking part in our Corporate Commuter Award.
Corporate Commuter Awards will be presented to those companies, which have for example, the highest percentage of staff taking part in walking, cycling, car sharing or using public transport for at least one week during the campaign period. Evidence must be provided in the form of photographs and written details. Below are examples of just some of the ways you can encourage your employees to take part:
Promote the Award through your staff intranet site - offer incentives for staff to car share, walk, cycle and come to work by public transport.
Put bus and train timetables on the intranet, by reception and in other staff areas (kitchen, restaurant etc.)
Set up a Bicycle Buddy scheme whereby confident cyclists ride to work with those who may not have been on their bikes for a while.
Provide maps of walking and cycling routes.
Encourage staff who live near work to walk to work together - it's more fun, the walk seems really short, and they'll be much healthier for it.
Set up an informal car-sharing network either through an email to all staff, the intranet or posters around the building. Link up staff who live near each other to car share.
Set up events to raise money for charity such as a sponsored car free day or week or a bike to work day or week.
The awards will be presented by a County Councillor and sponsors of the challenge will receive media coverage.
If you would like to take part, or require further information, please contact Jane Delaney on 01772 533299.
We will bring you further news of the Corporate Commuter award, later in the campaign
